Neighborhood Guide

A neighborhood at the foot of Griffith Park.

Los Feliz sits at the southeast corner of Griffith Park, between Hollywood, East Hollywood, Silver Lake, and Atwater Village. The hills north of Los Feliz Boulevard hold some of the most admired homes in Los Angeles. Below them, Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues run through Los Feliz Village, with independent shops, coffee, and restaurants.

Next Door

Griffith Park: the neighborhood's backyard.

Griffith Park covers more than 4,000 acres and is the largest municipal park with urban wilderness in the United States. It has 53 miles of trails, fire roads, and bridle paths, and the hike up Mount Hollywood, the park's highest peak, looks out over the Hollywood Sign and the whole city.

Inside the park you'll find Griffith Observatory, the Greek Theatre, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Autry Museum of the American West, the vintage trains at Travel Town, a historic carousel, three city golf courses, and Fern Dell, a shady fern-lined canyon that's a city Historic-Cultural Monument.

a few Places Within

01

Los Feliz Village

Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues, roughly between Prospect Avenue and Los Feliz Boulevard. The walkable heart of the neighborhood, with independent shops, coffee, and restaurants.

02

The Hills

North of Los Feliz Boulevard, the streets climb toward Griffith Park. This is where you'll find grand Period Revival homes from the 1920s through the 1940s, along with landmark modern houses.

03

Laughlin Park

A gated enclave of about 60 homes off Franklin Avenue, laid out in 1913. Cecil B. DeMille and W.C. Fields both lived here.

04

Franklin Hills

On the southeast side, toward Silver Lake. Winding streets, public stairways, and the Shakespeare Bridge, a little Gothic-style bridge built in 1926.

Walt and Roy Disney opened their first studio on Kingswell Avenue, in the back of a real estate office.

Richard Neutra completed the Lovell Health House, one of the first steel-frame houses in the country.

The Greek Theatre was completed in Griffith Park.

1935

Griffith Observatory was finished, and it has watched over Los Feliz ever since.
